Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), participated in Claudia Sheinbaum's morning conference, where she presented the Mexico 2026 app, as well as details of the Social World Cup. These are two tools that will be used to promote the country's hosting of the FIFA World Cup next year.
The federal official shared that through this tool, tourists will have a map at their fingertips through which they can learn about the country and its tourist attractions. She emphasized that it will feature information on the country's attractions, such as magical towns, places to sample national cuisine, and transportation routes.
The Ministry of Tourism presents the Mexico 2026 app for the World Cup
This tool will have three main sections through which information will be gathered not only to enjoy the soccer championship, but also to learn about the different corners of Mexico. The sections will be:
- Explore the city and its surroundings
- Information about the 2026 FIFA World Cup
- Useful Services
In the first, people will find tourist information about the host cities, cultural and soccer activities, as well as fan routes. The cultural calendar and the Made in Mexico section, featuring national companies, will also be available.
The second, as its name suggests, will contain everything related to the tournament. The last one will contain the information you need to get around with confidence, as well as guides on food, connectivity, and discovering the Mayan world via the Mayan Train. It will also include information on commemorative stamps and tickets for the World Cup.
The Ministry of Tourism reported that the Mexico 2026 app will feature more than 260 fan routes and tourist information points, and will be available in English and Spanish.
Tourism will shake Mexico
Josefina Rodríguez Zamora announced that there will also be two gatherings of traditional cooks and chefs from every state in Mexico, which will be held in different venues.
The host cities (Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara) will also host the official FIFA Fan Fest, where the 2026 World Cup matches will be screened free of charge. In addition, three Guinness World Records will be attempted next year.
Mexico will also host the Social World Cup
President Claudia Sheinbaum presented the "Social World Cup," which will consist of cultural, sporting, and social activities throughout 2026 to promote tourism in Mexico. She indicated that as part of this, there will be mini-world cups, tournaments, and more.
They will not be aimed at a specific audience, as the aim is to involve children, teenagers, adults, and seniors in order to raise awareness of the importance of each activity.
The goal is to bring soccer to the entire country. Let the balls roll beyond the pitches: mini-world cups, tournaments, and even pickup games in communities. Let's experience the passion of the stadiums in public squares with free broadcasts of the matches. Let the game and the ball, which have been part of our history, reach schoolyards," said Gabriela Cuevas, Mexico's representative for the World Cup.
The Ministry of Tourism announced that, in addition to the official FIFA Fan Fest, screens will be set up in all 32 states of the country, as well as in the 177 magical towns, so that everyone can experience the excitement of the 2026 World Cup.
